This tutorial covers the latest-technology communications, navigation and surveillance, CNS, systems. Communications covers wired and wireless devices including VHF data link, SATCOM, CPDLC and ADS-C. Issues of FANS 1/A and NextGEN requirements for increased communications are discussed. Fundamentals of multiple access is covered. Basic networking for wired and wireless systems is covered which includes transmission lines and line codes and covers popular data busses such as ARINC-429, AFDX, and MIL 1553. Navigation includes a thorough discussion of GPS and WAAS. ADS-B is the main topic for surveillance systems.
